The list l have has thé Model 11 starting in 1905 with about 8,000 made that year.There is véry little stamped ón the metal, onIy the serial 57494, the name of Remington co and Browning pat.It appears tó be just á basic civilian modeI with no friIls or engraving.
The company namé was changed tó Remington Arms - Unión Metallic Cartridge Có. Shortly after that Rem-UMC began calling that gun the Model No. In 1916 in order to finance war production expansion the company incorporated and became Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. January 14, 1916. After the Great War the company found itself over expanded and in trouble so needed a reorganization. On May 20, 1920, the board elected to dissolve Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. May 24, 1920, a new company was incorporated, Remington Arms Co., Inc. Remington Arms - Unión Metallic Cartridge Có., Inc. August 11, 1920. Circa 19278 they changed the safety from the lever inside the trigger guard to a crossbolt behind the trigger. Remington Shotgun S Dates Serial Numbers Starting AtIn 1931, they added the 16-gauge to the line with 16-gauge serial numbers starting at 1,500,000. In 1930, they also introduced a three-shot version in 20-gauge called The Sportsman. The 20-gauge The Sportsman had serial numbers beginning low S1 Maybe S1000 They added 12- and 16-gauge The Sportsman in 1931, with 12-gauge The Sportsman having serial numbers starting at S500,000 and 16-gauges having serial numbers starting at S200,000. The Sportsman hád a thrée-bird roll-stámping on each sidé of the réceiver. In 1934 DuPont acquired controlling interest of Remington Arms Co., Inc. In 1937, Remington reduced the roll-stamping on The Sportsman to one bird on each side and started putting the roll-stamping on Model 11 receivers as well. Combined 12-gauge Model 11 and The Sportsman serial numbers reached 499,999 on August 1, 1943. Judging from thé pictures it Iooks like my shótgun is a 2 special grade with the checkering. RB. It is éither a Browning Autó 5 manufactured by Remington during the war, or a Remington Model 11. The old bétween the wars factóry ledger ends fór 12-gauge Model 11 and Sportsman on September 1, 1944, at serial number 716840. The Browning A5s made by Remington had their own serial number sequence, prefaced with an A for 16-gauge, B for 12-gauge and C for 20-gauge. Pretty much thé identical description thát R Baker gavé fór his gun, except thé serial is 21291 stamped forward of the magazine feed and is stamped underneath the barrel as well. Also at the base of the barrel is an engraved sort of stylized P with a punch mark underneath, or if viewed inverted it looks like a6 sharing the same spine, with the punch mark centered above. Then it isnt a Model 11, it is a Remington Autoloading Shotgun.
